The Effect of Coating Pd/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> and PdAg/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> Catalysts with [BMIM][DCA] for the Selective Hydrogenation of 1‐Octyne in 1‐Octene

Abstract The selective hydrogenation of octyne in a mixed 1‐octyne/1‐octene feed was investigated by employing Pd/Al 2 O 3 and PdAg/Al catalysts coated with 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([BMIM][DCA]) as SCILLs (Solid Catalysts an Ionic Liquid Layer). All were compared to organically modified, 1‐ethylimidazole (EIM) catalyst determine if there is SCILL effect. Results the catalysis showed that both uncoated highly active (100 % 1‐octyne 1‐octene conversion) reactions dominant selectivity towards octane. No increase reactor outflow (octene gain) noted. Coating 1Pd/Al [BMIM][DCA] at four monolayers (ML) corresponding surface loading 45 wt% still gave 100 conversion but now 54 gain, no octene converted. 1Pd9Ag/Al only single monolayer (14 wt%) sufficient give gain 84 91 %. Time‐on‐stream for systems stable operation during experiments.
